song idea: guy smoking a cigarette, finishing a pitcher of beer, and playing alone at an upright piano in a dimly lit bar that is at first crowded and loud, but begins emptying at closing time; eventually only the bartender listening while he cleans. so accordingly, the man starts playing quiet, almost monotonous, meandering chords when the room is crowded and everyone is too loud and distracted to hear it. then he transitions to soft ballads, humming the melodies, as people start to leave... but it builds to a soulful, gritty crescendo as people finally leave and it's just him and the bartender. the bartender only knows his first name, and has only ever spoken with him regarding the bill, the weather, etc. the player knows from the sounds of keys rattling that he has about 15 second to finish up, and it ends- not totally unresolved or abruptly, but with the hint that there was more. cuz the bartender is never left waiting at the door for him to leave so he can lock up...
